andefficientfaultdetectionandrecoverymechanisms.Thehighreliabilityof
thetelecommunicationsnetworkcomponentsmakestheaccumulationofsystem
operatingdatathatisneededtoquantifylong-termreliabilityby
straightforwardmethodsdifficult,ifnotimpractical.

SystemReliabilityModelingandAnalysis(SRMA)isthemeansbywhich
telecommunicationssystemsreliabilitycanbequantified.Withtheadventof
new,complexarchitectures,thereisagreatermaintenanceburdenonasystem
owner.SRMAcanquantitativelyassesssuchburdenstodeterminewhethera
systemcanmeetmaintainabilityobjectiveswiththeallottedmaintenance
resources.Itcanalsobeusedtooptimizerepairormaintenancestrategies.
